Even More Fancy Foods
Ok, here's my last roundup of stuff I saw that was interesting at the Fancy Food show:
Frozen prepared hors d'oeuvres seemed to be popular; though I usually avoid frozen stuff, I admit that lately, I've been finding some of it to be pretty great (those who ate tater tots at my holiday party or onion rings at my brunch would agree, I suspect). The Perfect Bite Co. has adorable mini sliders, veggie tartlets, dumplings and mini pizzas with assorted toppings (sundried tomato and goat cheese, wild mushroom and aged jack cheese) that will turn your next cocktail party into an elegant affair. Good Wives has spring rolls, savory pastries and mini quiches like bacon and cheese and curried crab. Can't wait to test these out...hopefully they taste as good as they look.
In other frozen food news, you can also buy individually frozen souffles from Heavenly Souffle that you just pop in the oven and bake. You'll impress friends, significant others and mothers-in-law when you whip these out of the oven at the end of dinner.
I've seen prepared polenta in tubes before, but I haven't seen pre-cooked, ready to heat and serve grits -- until I spied San Gennaro Foods' tubes of Southern-style grits. Though true Southerners might scoff, you don't see grits too often up here in the Northeast, so ready-made grits sounds pretty good to me.
Smart Juice's Pomegranate Black Carrot juice was probably one of the strangest things I sampled -- not sure I'm a fan of the flavor (it was pretty intense), but I thought the use of black carrots was unique/interesting...something I hadn't seen before.
